In this section, I will discuss how to set up your currency, date format, profit goal, hide total, notifications, strategies, exchanges, labels, sharing options, and theme.
Edit Currency #
Since we don’t all live in the same place, we had to let people choose their own currency. You can easily change it by going to the top menu under Trading Journal > Settings > Change Currency. Once you click on yours, just wait for the message to appear, telling you that it’s completed.
Edit Date Format #
You can change the date format by going to the top menu under Trading Journal > Settings > Edit Date Format. Once you click on yours, just wait for the message to appear, telling you that it’s completed.
Then select your date format from the dropdown.
Profit Goal #
You can add a profit goal by going to the top menu under Trading Journal > Settings > Edit Profit Goal.
You can then set your profit goal by entering your goal amount in cell I7.
Hide Total #
If you don’t want to display your total amount on all the dashboards, you can hide them by going to the top menu under Trading Journal > Settings > Hide Total.
You can then select “Yes” to hide your total in all dashboards.
Edit Notifications #
If you want to receive a daily email with your PnL or get an email alert from the Watchlist, go to the top menu under Trading Journal > Settings > Edit Notifications.
If you wish to get notified, you will first need to enter an email to receive the notification. You will receive the email from the Google account connected to the spreadsheet.
If you want to receive a daily email with:
- Your profit and losses for the year, month, and day for all your assets (stocks, crypto, stocks)
- Your current portfolio for all your assets (stocks, crypto, stocks)
Then select “Yes” under “Send a daily email with your PnL.”
If you want to receive an email alert when a stock or crypto you are watching is getting close to your alert price, select “Yes” under “Send email alert from the Watchlist.”
Edit Sharing
If you want to share your trades with the public, go to the top menu under Trading Journal > Settings > Edit Sharing.
If you want to share your trades but only share your PnL % and keep the dollar amount private, follow the steps below:
1- Make a copy of the following spreadsheet.
2- Enter the URL of the copied version of the spreadsheet into the “Your Public URL” cell.
You can add a profile name and Twitter handle in the other cell, but it’s not mandatory.
Now you are ready to share your trades. To do that, go to the Crypto, Stock, or Option dashboard.
Scroll over to column AJ, where you will find a dropdown allowing you to share that trade. Once you select “Yes,” you will get a popup message telling you it is in the process of copying that trade into “Your Public URL.” Once completed, another popup message will confirm it was successful.
Once completed, you can visit “Your Public URL” and see your trade appear under the dashboard you selected. As you can see, it only shares your PnL in %, keeping your PnL in $ private.
You can also share your portfolio by going to the top menu under Trading Journal >Portfolio.
Then select “Yes” from the dropdown next to “Make Public.” Your portfolio will then appear in “Your Public URL.”
Change Theme Color #
If you want to change the theme color of all the sheets, go to the top menu under Trading Journal > Change Theme Color.
Once you click on any choice, you will be notified via a popup message when it’s completed.
Manage Strategies #
You can add your own trading strategies to your trades by going to the top menu under Trading Journal > Settings > Manage Strategies.
Just replace “Add Strategy” with your own. Make it default if you want it to appear automatically when you enter a trade. Select “No” if you don’t want it to appear in the dropdown list in your trading journal. You can use the “Enter Description” cell to enter any pertinent information about your strategy.
Manage Exchanges #
You can add your own exchanges to your trades by going to the top menu under Trading Journal > Settings > Manage Exchanges.
Select from crypto, stock, and options exchanges you want to manage, and then replace “Add Exchange” with your own. Make it default if you want it to appear automatically when you enter a trade. Select “No” if you don’t want it to appear in your dropdown list in your trading journal.
Manage Labels #
You can manage all the labels on the spreadsheet by going to the top menu under Trading Journal > Settings > Manage Labels.
Once you update a label, it will update every other occurrence of the label. If you add a new label, use the following formula to apply it: =Labels!A15
. Simply replace the number with the row number from the “Labels” sheet.
